Abuja Prepaid Meter Application Online - AEDC | Felix Omoko Blog

Prepaid Meter
The prepaid meter Asset Provider (MAP) is available in Abuja, Nasarawa, Kogi and Niger states residents through the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company AEDC website.

The MAP is approved by NERC to provide meters having met all the necessary criteria under the Regulation in the MAP to provide meters to old and existing customers.

Customers can choose to make full upfront payment or make payment in installments over a period of 10 years in exchange for a meter service charge, which the consumer will pay to the distribution company on an agreed frequency e.g. monthly. The distribution company will then remit the meter service charge to the MAP up to 10 years.

Cost of Meter

  1. Single phase – N36, 991.5 (Inclusive of Vat)
  2. 3 phase – N67, 055.85 (Inclusive of Vat)
Payment Terms
Payment for meters is not the first process of the MAP, in fact payment is actually the fifth process. We will also want to iterate that customers are not to make payment for meter to anyone, organization, group or any account number that is not authorised by AEDC Plc.

Benefits of Using Meter

  • Accuracy of billing of customers
  • Energy accounting is ensured
  • Energy management/conservation by customers
  • It will ensure transparency
  • Customers will have their premises metered in good time
  • Ultimately, both customers and the service provider such as AED Plc will be the better for it.

Payment Policy
No cash payment should be made to anyone. Payments are to be made online using your debit cards or payment will be made in the banks to designated escrow accounts for each vendor. Customers will be advised to make payments via sms.

Meter Regulations Policy
This regulation is an initiative of NERC to close the metering gap currently estimated at about 4.74 million as at December 2017. The shortage of meter has resulted in the estimation of customer bills and in recent time, there has been an increasing clamor by customers to put an end to estimation through the provision of meter to all electricity consumers. It is estimated that about N200 billion would be required to close the huge metering gap in the electricity industry.

Meter Installation Rules
Be informed that according to the NERC regulation on unauthorized access, meter by-pass and tamper, the customer will be required to pay a stipulated penalty amount for administrative charge and re-connection fees. In addition to paying this cost, they will be liable to pay for the loss of revenue for the unauthorized consumption by paying back-bills.
