Abuja stadium renamed: MKO Abiola Stadium Abuja

President Buhari will be remembered for given June 12 a special recognition in Nigeria and for immortalizing the late MKO Abiola.


President Buhari departs Eagle's Square after the inaugural celebration of the 2019 Democracy Day where he formally unveils the changing of the Abuja stadium to MKO Abiola stadium as a mark of honour to the acclaimed winner of the 1993 annulled presidential election.



Buhari made this pronouncement during his speech at the Democracy Day celebration on Wednesday at the Eagle Square, Abuja.


June 12 was on Monday officially declared as Democracy Day as a mark of honour to Abiola, the acclaimed winner of June 12, 1993 presidential election.

Firstly, he makes June 12 a Democracy Day in Nigeria after assenting the bill passed by the National Assembly.

Secondly, he renamed Abuja National Stadium after MKO Abiola as Moshood Abiola Stadium on the occasion of the 2019 Democracy Day celebration.
