Nigerians celebrate Easter amidst COVID-19 pandemic lock down across every homes, cities and states in Nigeria. The pandemic rocked Lagos Nigeria on 27th March with first case, but today with over 300 confirmed cases.


Lagos and FCT Abuja have the highest numbers of confirmed cases as major cities with higher numbers of overseas returnees. The Lagos state government is set to continue the second phase of identifying affected persons through the Door-Door COVID-19 Test Campaign initiative.

Meanwhile, Kogi State was the first to remove the ban on religious activities to enable Christians celebrate the 2020 Easter season, which comes with joy, peace and restoration.

Most churches in Nigeria are currently using the online social platform for live transmission of services to worships in their homes and small groups while still observing the social distancing practice and other COVID-19 guidelines.

The 2020 Easter celebration commenced on April 10th till 13th, witnessing Good Friday, Easter Sunday and Easter Monday.

President Buhari sends his Easter Message to Christians and also remarks on the disruptions and restrictions the lock down will cause the celebration.

Affected States in Nigeria are Lagos, FCT Abuja, Osun, Ogun, Edo, Bauchi, Kaduna, Katsina, Delta, Rivers, Benue, Oyo, Enugu, Ekiti, Kwara, Ondo, Niger and Anambra. The coronavirus has affected 19 states including the FCT.

COVID-19 death records were from Lagos, Abuja, Edo, Delta and Katsina states.
