Rep Endorses Okonjo-Iweala's Candidacy as DG of WTO

The Nigeria's Federal House of Representatives has given credence to the candidacy of Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala as the Director -General of the World Trade Organisation (WTO).

The Nigeria lower green chamber also requested Kenya, Mexico and Egypt candidates to step down for Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala as the selection process elapses on 31st August, 2020.

Director-General Selection Process 2020
General Council Chair David Walker of New Zealand informed members on 20 May 2020. The appointment process for the next Director-General formally commenced on 8 June with nominations accepted from that date until 8 July.

Candidates for DG selection process 2020
The following candidates have been nominated by their respective governments for the post of WTO Director-General to succeed the current Director-General, Mr Roberto Azevêdo, who has announced he will step down on 31 August 2020.

2. Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala
    Country: Nigeria

3. Mr Abdel-Hamid Mamdouh
    Country: Egypt

4. Mr Tudor Ulianovschi
    Country: Moldova

5.  Ms Yoo Myung-hee
     Country: Republic of Korea

6.  Ms Amina C. Mohamed
     Country: Kenya

7.  Mr Mohammad Maziad Al-Tuwaijri
     Country: Kingdom of Saudi Arabia

8. Dr Liam Fox
    Country: United Kingdom.
