Anthony Ewherido: Bishop-Elect of Warri Catholic Diocese

Pope Francis has formally appointed Rev. Fr. Anthony Ewherido as the Bishop-Elect for the Catholic Diocese of Warri in Delta state as published by FOB News.

The Papal’s declaration was released on Wednesday by the Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Benin and Administrator of the Catholic Diocese of Warri, Archbishop Augustine Akubeze, at a ceremony at the Warri Cathedral that was attended by priests and lay faithful of the catholic.

Fr. Ewherido, 62 was the Rector of his alma mater, SS. Peter and Paul Major Seminary, Ibadan, Oyo State of Nigeria before his new appointment by Pope Francis.

With his elevation, the Bishop-elect who hails from Ewu clan in Urhobo in Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State, becomes the second indigenous Bishop of the Diocese of Warri, after the retirement of Bishop John Afareha.

Bishop Ewherido is an elder brother to the late Senator representing Delta Central at the National Assembly and former deputy Speaker, of the Delta State House of Assembly, Senator Pius Ewherido, who died on 30 June, 2013 after a brief illness in Abuja.
