Kano state is a created in 1967 in North East geopolitical zone of Nigeria and one of the most populous state in Nigeria comprising of 44 LGAs.
Kano state is one of the leading state that had control over the politics of Nigeria in terms of population, technocrats, industries, academic institutions and economic activities.
Historical Facts
After a British occupation of the region, culminating in the Battle of Kano in February 1903, the region became a part of the Northern Nigeria Protectorate.
Later, state became a part of the Northern Region of Nigeria and was officially created on May 27, 1967.
According to the Kano Chronicle (1890s), the best-known native history of the Hausa people, the Kano kingdom was founded as one of the Hausa Bakwai (“Seven True Hausa States”) in 999 by Bagauda, a grandson of Bayajida (Abuyazidu), the legendary progenitor of the Hausa people.

Ethnic Groups
The major ethnic groups in pre-colonial Kano City were the Hausa, Fulani, Beriberi (Kanuri), Tuareg, Arab, Nupe, and some tribes from the southern Nigeria. Most people in Kano city have come to use the Hausa language as a first language and some have accepted Hausa as an ethnic identification.
