Two Dies & Others trapped as 2-Storey Building Collapsed in FCT Abuja

A commercial storey building under construction has reportedly collapsed on Thursday with two confirmed death and over 50 persons trapped in the rubble in the Gwarinpa area of the Federal Capital Territory.
As reported by Leadership Newspaper, a 2-storey commercial complex under construction in Gwarinpa district of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja has collapsed on Thursday afternoon, trapping over 50 persons under its rubbles.

Collapsed Building

It was reported that about 50 workers were conveying blocks to the top of the building and were trapped in the rubble of the collapsed building.

The collapsed building was illegally allocated in the green areas for building of a commercial complex against the standard of the Federal Housing Authority, which requires probing by the relevant management authority.

The director of development control in the FCT Administration, Muktar Galadima, while speaking on the incident, said that rescue operations were ongoing with combined team of several agencies.

Some of the casualties that have rescued alive are already taking treatment in the nearby hospital, according to information obtained from the Director of development control in the FCT Administration, Muktar Galadima.

The relevant governing body will commence investigation to ascertain what and how the ill-fitted structure was allocated and approved for building.
