Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila Resigns
Hon. Femi was the member representing Surulere 1 in the 10th National Assembly which was inaugurated on Tuesday.
Recall that Femi was appointed as the Chief of Staff to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on 1st June 2023, while still serving as the Speaker of the 9th National Assembly.
In his readiness to serve Mr. President in his new appointment, he therefore tendered his resignation letter to the current Speaker, Tajudeen Abbas and his seat was declared vacant.
Hon. Femi resignation is to enable him serve as the Chief of Staff (CoS) to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his tweet reads;
To the glory of God, I resigned my membership of the newly Inaugurated 10th House of Representatives today. I had the privilege to move the first motion in the new House which was on the need to prepare to avert the negative effects of the forecast of heavy flooding in some parts of the country. The House passed the resolutions accordingly.
Thereafter, Speaker Tajudeen Abbas read my resignation letter and declared my seat vacant. An opportunity for the people of Surulere 1 Federal Constituency to elect my replacement.
I have assumed my new office as the Chief of Staff to the President in readiness to work with Mr. President in delivering his Renewed Hope agenda for Nigeria.
As a result of resignation, INEC will conduct a fresh election into Surulere 1 of the Federal House of Reps for a possible replacement.
