Tinubu Appoints Akume SGF, Gbajabiamila CoS
President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of Senator George Akume as the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) with effect from 2 June.
Akume, 69 is succeeding Boss Mustapha as the Secretary to the Government of the Federation under President Tinubu administration.
Born: 27 December 1953
As a senator, he served as the Minority Leader of the Senate from June 2011 to June 2015.
As a Governor, he was the Governor of Benue State from May 1999 to May 2007 under the People's Democratic Party (PDP), but currently a member of the All Progressive Congress, APC.
He won another term in 2015 but lost to Senator Orke Jev of the PDP in 2019. On July 23, 2019, President Buhari nominated Akume to serve as a minister.
As a Minister, he served as the Honourable Minister of Special Duties and Inter-governmental Affairs under President Muhammadu Buhari regime.
The President also approved the appointment of the Speaker of the Federal House of Representative, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila as the Chief of Staff (CoS) and other principal officers as he commences his four years in office.
