Threads App: Features and Sign Up
The threads app was launched by the CEO and co-founder of Facebook, the meta platforms, owner of Instagram, WhatsApp and Facebook.
Threads looks similar to Twitter. Both are to compete in the social media platforms as competitors.
Threads App Features
- Threads users can post text, images, and videos; reply to and like posts by others.
- App available on iOS and Android devices.
- Threads users must have an Instagram account to sign up and are required to use the same username.
- Posts on threads can contain 500 characters of text and up to 5 minutes of video.
- It is text-based posts and conversations (also known as microblogging)
- Threads is closely linked to and based on sister social networking service Instagram.
- Threads and Instagram accounts share the same username, profile picture and name, with users only able to change these details through Instagram.

Official Launch
Threads was officially launched on July 5 in 100 countries, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, and Japan by Meta Platform company, the owner of Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp.
Threads reaches 10 million users download after launch globally.
Users are also able to select which followed accounts on Instagram carry over to Threads, either with the other person's Threads account already created or set to automatically follow them once an account is created.
How it Works
Threads is part of the Instagram platform. The Future versions of Threads will work with the fediverse, a new type of social media network that allows people to follow and interact with each other on different platforms, like Mastodon.
