NPC Announces New Date for 2023 Census Exercie


The National Population Commission, NPC has announced new date for the conduct of the 2023 Populational and Housing Census after temporary suspension by President Bola Tinubu.

President Bola Tinubu has given go ahead to the National Population Commission to get prepared and unveil the overall master plan of the entire census exercise.

The functionaries, especially adhoc staff that will man exercise must avail themselves of the intensive training that will start soon across the 774 Local Government Areas and the six area councils in FCT.

Functionaries will be trained on how to handle the PDA for collection data on population and housing purposes.

All applicants are expected to check the census application portal or visit their LGA of residence for details of the training schedule.

As many are not unware of the setback that affected the postponement of the population and housing census, PHC which line majorly on financial burden. The new administration of President Tinubu find it difficult to shoulder such responsibility at the onset of their tenure.

All stakeholders are hereby notified to get back to their plans and start organising training and mobilizing for effective 2023 census exercise.

According to Hon. Kwarra, the national chairman of the National Population (NPC), all hands must be on desk in the final preparation of the first digital census in history.

As we journey towards the final stage of preparations to conduct the first digital and green Population and Housing Census in Nigeria that will provide the country with evidence-based demographic data for development planning, I wish to assure Nigerians and the international community that the National Population Commission is irrevocably committed to ensuring that everything about the 2023 Census is done rightly and professionally. We have the clear vision, commitment, and capacity to deliver on this historic mandate.

The methodology for the 2023 Census has been designed to produce not only accurate, reliable, and acceptable census data but also inclusive and user-friendly data that will be used by all segments of society for development planning and critical program interventions.

The Commission remains committed to the conduct of a credible and acceptable census that will be transformational, trans-generational, and meet international standards. In the 2023 Census, everyone will be counted once in the right way, at the right place and time, and for the benefit of all persons in Nigeria. No one will be left behind.

Therefore, I enjoin all Nigerians and other stakeholders to get involved, support the Commission, and present themselves to be counted in the 2023 Population and Housing Census.
