Ondo state Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu is Dead

The Executive Governor of Ondo state, Rotimi Akeredolu has passed on after months of protracted illness. He died at the age of 67 years and he is survived by wife and children.

Rotimi became Governor of Ondo State on 24 February 2017 and died in active service on 27 December 2023 after prolonged battle with Leukemia.

Akeredolu was a Nigerian lawyer and politician, who became president of the Nigerian Bar Association in 2008. 

He is the current governor of Ondo State and doubles as the chairman of Southwest Governors.

Akeredolu has been undergoing treatment for leukaemia since January 2023, and has had a long period of medical absence.

Acting Governor to be Sworn-in as Governor of Ondo State
On 12 December 2023, he signed the notice of appointing deputy governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa as Acting Governor for another period round of medical leave.

Lucky Aiyedatiwa who is the current acting governor is to be sworn-in as the Executive Governor of Ondo state.

May the soul of the demised governor of Ondo state, Rotimi Akeredolu rest in peace.
