EFCC: Nigeria Senator Caught on Camera Abusing Naira Notes

A civil society group has petition the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC over the abuse of the naira notes by a Nigerian Senator caught on camera.

A coalition of civil society groups under the umbrella of the Network of Civil Society Organizations in Nigeria has asked the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to investigate Senator Monday Okpebholo caught on video ‘spraying’ naira notes.

Monday Okpebholo is the senator representing Edo Central Senatorial District in the National Assembly. He was the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate in the September 21 governorship election in Edo State.

The groups, which supported their petition with video evidence, accused Senator Okpebholo of abusing naira notes by spraying the currency at a public event, the same action that sent popular Nigerian cross-dresser, Okuneye Idris, popularly known as Bobrisky to six months in prison in Lagos, as earlier reported.

Similarly, the EFCC is currently prosecuting the same case with “Cubana Chief Priest”, who was granted bail in April with the sum of of N10 million and later decided to settled out of court.

The group therefore urges the anti-graft agency (EFCC) to investigate petition thoroughly and bring culprit to justice in line with the rule of law.
